You are a Republican if you think tax breaks should go to the one half of one percent of the wealthiest while Congress votes itself a pay raise and fails to raise a minimum wage that has been stuck at $5.15 for nine years.

You are a Republican if you believe that stem cell research is murder but don’t adopt any of the 400,000 frozen embryos that will be discarded.

You are a Republican if you believe that withholding basic human rights from homosexuals will save the heterosexual America family.

You are a Republican if you believe that 9/11 was caused by Saddam Hussein and Iraqis.

You are a Republican if you believe that the bright line between church and state is no longer a basic tenant of democracy.

You are a Republican if you believe that the federal executive should trump over the other two branches of government.

You are a Republican if you believe that millions of children and elderly should have no health insurance while universal health insurance is the standard of every other western democracy.

You are a Republican if you believe that building more prisons is the best answer to crime and drug use.

You are a Republican if you believe that cheap Mexican labor justifies not controlling our borders.

You are a Republican if you support rampant spending while Social Security is destined to disappear for our children.

You are a Republican if you believe that America is better off today than it was five years ago.

As a conservative who is disgusted with the current GOP's leadership, I would tend to agree with you. On issues such as global warming, stem cell, gay rights, and the economy, I agree that the GOP has become hypocritical and lost focus on its ideals - the protection of constitutional values, a minimum of government intrusion into private matters, and public policy based on solid evidence and practical movement.

HOWEVER - you are off base on a couple of things:
1) The bright line between church and state has never truly existed. True Republicans believe that there should be no established religion in government, but believe also that we should tolerate nonestablished religion in government.
2) Re: the trumping of the executive ... um, and Democrats didn't favor the hegemony of the executive when they held the White House? Or the legislature when they controlled the Congress?
3) The most ardent supporters of controlling illegal immigration via security are Republicans, not Democrats.

Also, be wary of painting with too broad of a brush. There are many Republicans like myself who want to get back to our core ideals, and have far more in common with our Democratic friends than our GOP leaders. Labeling us all as hatemongers only prevents the type of constructive work that might finally bring down the GOP leaders we both disdain.

As a sorta Democrat to a Republican -- I generally agree with you.

And I really agree with you that finding a moderate center to which most Americans can subscribe would be positive to our moving on to working on the common issues facing our country.
